2011 Nebeker Reunion in Payson, UT

Dear Cousins: It's been a year since our last great reunion up in La Grande. It's time to email everyone about our next reunion with time and place. Since Cammie and I are incharge of this next reunion we have chosen June 24 & 25, 2011 as the time and Payson, Utah as the place. We have had alot of feedback and felt that we need to highlight Joseph Wiley and his ancesters who lived in Payson. There's alot of history and interesting sites there to see. Someday it would be great to highlight Annie Helen's birthplace down in New Zealand, but that would be when we're all rich and famous, to enjoy that travel. Anyway, please pass on to all your families who I don't have emails to, and let them know of the time and place for this exciting reunion. We will be emailing all, from time to time of new and upcoming info as we get closer to the reunion. The whole Nebeker Family would like to thank Ritchie Hibbert and all those who worked so hard to make this year's family reunion a great success. It is wonderful to be a part of such an extended and loving family, and it is worth the effort it takes to reunite for a weekend. I'm sure J. Wiley and Nellie Nebeker look down with love and affection upon their posterity and are pleased at the efforts we make to stay close together. Thanks to everyone who came and supported the reunion in any way.

Help from beyond the Veil

Elder Melvin J. Ballard … taught: "Why is it that sometimes only one of a city or household receives the Gospel? It was made known to me that it is because the righteous dead who have received the Gospel in the spirit world are exercising themselves, and in answers to their prayers elders of the Church are sent to the homes of their posterity..., and that a descendant in the flesh is then privileged to do the work for his dead kindred. I want to say to you that it is with greater intensity that the hearts of the fathers and mothers in the spirit world are turned to their children now in the flesh than that our hearts are turned to them." (Melvin J. Ballard, Crusader for Righteousness, p. 219)
We often wonder if our ancestors will accept the gospel. Ironically, in many instances, they accepted it before we did. Their prayers and faithfulness have brought the gospel into our lives instead of the other way around. Officiating in the temple for them is a deep expression of our gratitude and helps bind us to them.
If we are in tune, they will also help us as we try to locate the documents that record their names. As Elder Ballard said: "They know where their records are, and....the spirit and influence of your dead will guide those who are interested in finding those records... If there is anywhere on the earth anything concerning them, you will find it... If we have done our best and have searched and have discovered all that is available then the day will come when God will open and part the veil, and the records... will be revealed. (Bryant S. Nebeker Family Reunion Reminder

May 6, 2008 update: Cost for the reunion is to help us cover the food. We figured $5.00/ person over the age of six (6). We will collect it at the reunion.
When I say Grand Family I mean any descendant stemming from one of the eight original children. So, we have eight Grand Families.

Location: We have reserved the Island City LDS Building , Pavilion and baseball field, on the corner of McAlister Road and Buchanan Lane in Island City .

Times: Friday 6:30 pm : Pot luck dinner, Games and getting reacquainted.
            Saturday 11:00 am to 3:00 pm : Family Exhibits, Lunch, activities and program.
            Saturday evening: Open for other family activities and wedding reception.

FAMILY EXHIBITS: What we would like for each of the eight (8) original children (Alex, Helen Ida, Gertie, Vern, Verda, Viola, and Wiley) to have a table memorial made for them. You could have one person from each of the grand families assigned to make it up with picture or what ever. For example, for the Gertie Nebeker family we are asking Dixie to be in charge of making up the display/exhibit. So, will you please arrange for someone in your Grand Family to do this.

PROGRAM: We would like to have a short program, having a number/performance from each of the Grand Families, making a total of six or seven performances for us to enjoy.   Please let me know who will be performing.

SHIRTS OR TOPS: To help identify which family everyone is apart of… we have a color code. Each Grand Family with a different colored shirt or top. Colors were picked at random. So, here we go!

Distant “Nebiker” cousins in Switzerland

A newspaper article from Switzerland (translation below):

Old National Council President Hans Rudolf Nebiker died (7 Apr 2008).
The earlier National Council President, Hans Rudolf Nebiker died on Monday at 78 years of age. He served for 23 years from the Basel district until he retired in 1998. In 1991-92 he served as the National President (of the Council). He was born on 10 Oct. 1929 in Pratteln in Liestal. He grew up in Pratteln and Sissach. Nebiker was married and had six daughters.

{Note that Sissach is a decent sized town which is only about five miles northwest of Hafelfingen, the tiny village where our "Nebiker" ancestors came from. It is interesting to note that we still have distant cousins living in the same general area where Johann Nebiker came from when he left his homeland and migrated to Delaware in about 1754.}
